Gutsche Family Investments Art Gallery
Port Elizabeth businenessman, Philipp Rowland Gutsche, died in the year 2000 leaving behind him a legacy of charity and goodwill. Mr Gutsche's daughter, Dorothea Moors, chairs the Gallery Board and the Board Members and Staff of the Gallery continue to uphold this legacy.
The Gallery is a landmark building on Park Drive and is one of the finest examples of Art Deco architecture in the city. In 1936, Axel Stockelbach, then managing director of Ford South Africa, commissioned the first woman Architect to qualify in South Africa, Gertruida Brinkman, to design his house, "Ridgewood". In 1988, Mr Gutsche purchased the house and it was his wish in that the residence be converted into an art gallery to house the Ron Belling Military Aviation Collection of paintings.
