RED LOCATION MUSEUM
Recently opened as the country’s fourth township museum, Red Location is situated in an area that was once was the site of intense political and racial conflict. Created to challenge conventional museum design, it draws on the work of Andreas Huyssen who has written extensively on the concept of memory and history. Visitors are not treated as mere spectators but active participants. The past is represented by a set of memories bound together by themes and focuses on the issues of institutionalized racism, the anti-apartheid movement and the liberation struggle.

The building also houses an art gallery featuring the works of East Cape artists, library, creative arts and adult literacy centres and conference facilities.
